Question 1

Why upgrade the B58 charge pipe?

Accepted Answer

The factory pipe is plastic. Owners and parts makers widely report it can crack under tuned boost and heat, which drops boost and can put the car in limp mode. An aluminum pipe removes that risk.

Question 2

Do I need a tune for a charge pipe?

Accepted Answer

No. A charge pipe is a direct replacement and works on a stock car. A pipe with a blow-off valve is best paired with a tune.

Question 3

Will a Gen 1 charge pipe fit my Gen 2 car or Supra?

Accepted Answer

No. The Gen 2 (B58TU) engine uses a different throttle body flange. Buy the pipe that matches your engine. The Gen 2 pipes listed here fit both the G-series BMW and the A90/A91 Supra.

Question 4

When should I install a charge pipe?

Accepted Answer

Before or with your first big boost increase. Most owners do it at Stage 1 or Stage 2. It is an easy job to combine with an intake or downpipe install.
