About B58 downpipes
For off-road / competition use only. Not legal for use on public roads in the United States, including California.
The downpipe is the part that takes a B58 from Stage 1 to Stage 2. It bolts to the turbo outlet and replaces the factory pipe and its restrictive converter with a larger, freer-flowing pipe. With a Stage 2 tune, the turbo spools sooner and makes more power across the rev range.
A downpipe needs a tune. Do not install one on a stock map. Plan on a matching tune: an off-the-shelf (OTS) Stage 2 map or a custom tune. As one third-party estimate, bmwtuning.co puts a Stage 2 B58 at about 400 to 420 whp on 93 octane. Results vary by car, fuel and weather.
Your main choice is price and build. The pipes we recommend are all catted:
- VRSF is the value pick for Gen 2 BMW and the Supra, with a 200-cell cat.
- Evolution Racewerks is a USA-made 304 stainless option for Gen 1 cars.
- Active Autowerke, Fabspeed and Akrapovic are premium catted pipes from established exhaust makers.
- MST 6 inch is for big-turbo builds that outgrow a 4.5 inch pipe.
Most downpipes are generation-specific: a pipe made for Gen 1 (F-series) usually won't fit Gen 2 (G-series and Supra), and the other way around. Some makers, like CTS Turbo, Scorpion and Spool, sell one B58 pipe listed for both generations. Check the fitment line on the listing for your exact car. Late 2025+ G-series cars may need a different part number. Call us with your VIN before you order.

How to choose
- Good: VRSF catted. The lowest-cost catted pipe for Gen 2 BMW and the Supra. Note the cat warranty is 1 to 2 years, shorter than some premium brands.
- Better: Evolution Racewerks or Active Autowerke GESI. USA-made stainless (ER) or a premium GESI catalyst (AA) for owners who want a higher-grade cat.
- Best: Fabspeed or Akrapovic. Big-name exhaust houses. The Akrapovic pipe matches an Akrapovic exhaust on the Supra.
FAQ
Do I need a tune for a B58 downpipe?
Yes. A downpipe changes how the turbo and exhaust behave, and the factory map is not set up for it. Run a matching tune: an off-the-shelf Stage 2 map or a custom tune. We do not recommend driving on a stock map with a downpipe installed.
What is the best M340i downpipe?
It depends on budget. The VRSF 4.5 inch catted pipe is the value choice. The Active Autowerke GESI and Fabspeed are premium catted options. All three fit the G20 M340i; check the model year for 2025+ cars.
Will a Gen 1 downpipe fit a Gen 2 car or the Supra?
Usually not. Most downpipes are made for one generation. A few are listed for both Gen 1 and Gen 2 BMWs, like the MST 6 inch, the CTS Turbo 4.5 inch high-flow cat and the Scorpion 5 inch. Spool's B58 race and catted downpipes are listed for Gen 1, Gen 2 and the Supra. Check the fitment line for your exact car, and send us your VIN if you are unsure.
Do I need a 6 inch downpipe?
Only for big-turbo builds. A 4.5 inch pipe is the normal Stage 2 size. MST sells its 6 inch catted pipe for builds that have outgrown 4.5 inch pipes.
