The downpipe is the first section after the turbo, and on the B58 it is one of the main restrictions in the exhaust. Milltek's large-bore downpipe replaces it with a freer-flowing pipe and a high-flow sports catalytic converter, so exhaust gas leaves the turbo more easily.
