The stock M340i airbox is a closed box with a flat panel filter and a resonator that exists to mute turbo and intake noise. Dinan's carbon fiber intake replaces it with a semi-open design and a reworked, larger lower box. Dinan rates it at 58% more airflow than stock, which shows up as more top-end pull and sharper throttle response.
